2019-2020 Season Recap & 2020-2021 Season Preview
The 2019-2020 BVSW Timberwolves wrestling season was a memorable one. Coming off a podium spot the previous year (3rd in 2018-2019) the expectations for the 2019-2020 season were high. With multiple State Placers returning seniors, the coaches knew the leadership and firepower were there to capitalize on the previous season's success. As the smoke cleared from the State tournament in late February, the Timberwolves held high a Runner-Up trophy for the highest placing ever for BVSW and solidified, even more, our status as the dominant wrestling program in eastern Kansas. Leading that Runner-Up finish were seniors Tanner Barrett (State Qualifier), Brandon Madden (2nd), Daniel McMullen (4th), Seth Nitzel (2nd), and Jackson McCall (2nd). These seniors have been multiple time State Qualifiers; Placers; and Champions and will leave a lasting legacy on Timberwolf Wrestling. Best wishes to all of these young men in the future.
For the 2020-2021 season, the Blue Valley Southwest Wrestling Program looks to repeat the success from last season. In 2019-2020, the Timberwolves were the second-place team at the 5A Kansas State Wrestling Championships. This was an improvement from third-place the previous year. Along with this Runner-Up finish, BVSW had 8 State Placers as well as the school’s first female State Placer in Hannah Glynn (4th). Other returning State Placers include State Champs Hayden Mills (2-time), Brett Umentum (2-time Finalist), Ethan Cronk (3rd), and Mack Hubbel (4th). Returning State Qualifiers looking to get podium spots this year are Cole Cronk, Awni Alazzeh, and Jake Laurie. Along with some new faces to the Varsity lineup, as well as a lot of new faces in the wrestling room, the Timberwolves are looking forward to a fantastic season and continuing to be one of the top programs in the state of Kansas.
